COUNSELLOR / TEAM LEADER FOR SWAN / TASP

FIXED TERM - PART TIME CONTRACT

A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Counsellor for SWAN/TASP project in
South Dublin County Partnership. South Dublin County Partnership is a
Local Development Company primarily funded by the Irish Government to
bring together local communities and state agencies to tackle the
problems of unemployment and social exclusion. We develop projects and
services to support sustainable and vibrant communities where people
can realise their potential and experience a high quality of life. The
focus of our activities is on areas where people experience
disadvantage. Our programmes of work are organised across key thematic
areas: Community Development, Enterprise & Employment, Lifelong
Learning, Children & Families, Health & Well Being.

SWAN is a community family support service operating in Tallaght. It
provides counselling, complimentary therapies and other supports to
individuals and families affected by drug or alcohol issues. Its
partner service Tallaght Addiction Support Project (TASP) provides
counselling, key-working, case management and other supports to
individuals suffering as a consequence of drug or alcohol use. Our
organization seeks to employ a PART TIME COUNSELLOR/ TEAM LEADER to
work across the two services, providing counselling and therapeutic
group support to service users and clinical support and supervision to
all support staff. This position is offered on a part time (**Apply on
the website**.5 weekly hours) basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* To work as a team member to fulfil the policies, aims and
objectives of the organisation.
* Participate in team meetings (remote or otherwise) and take lead
role in managing matters of risk or child protection, making external
reports where necessary and communicating same to the Project Leader
and Board of Directors.
* Act as Designated Liaison Person for Child Protection Referrals
ensuring same are submitted through appropriate channels (TUSLA
Portal)
* Act as a point of contact for team for advice on complex/high risk
cases
* Manage own caseload of counselling clients.
* Work within a multidisciplinary team
* Work closely with project leader as part of management team
* Maintain ECASS system and NDTRS link, ensuring timely and accurate
submissions to NERDATF, HRB, HSE.
* Complete and/or approve reports to outside agencies.
* Maintain written files in accordance with record keeping policy.
* Act as case manager where appropriate
* Liaison with outside agencies and oversee delivery of integrated
care-planning including attendance at interagency meetings where
required.
* Deliver evidenced based interventions including BI/ crisis
management to service users including group work where appropriate.
* To deliver recovery focused therapeutic/ educational groups to
service users.
* To work closely with community groups in the Tallaght area
* To fully engage in the work of the team and to take up training
opportunities offered by the project.
* To participate in the delivery of training initiatives as directed
by the board of TASP.
* To access regular clinical supervision.
* To provide clinical supervision for other volunteer and student
counsellors working for SWAN/TASP
* To facilitate regular peer support and supervision groups for
volunteer and student counsellors working for SWAN/TASP
* Such other appropriate and relevant tasks as may be required by
the board.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* Significant experience of facilitating therapeutic group work
and/or one to one work.
* Must have a thorough understanding of addiction and related
issues.
* Must have a thorough understanding of the principles of Harm
Reduction.
* Excellent communication and listening skills.
* A thorough understanding of best practice in case management and
effective care planning as laid out by NDRIC.
* The ability to work co-operatively and assertively as an equal
member of a small team.
* The ability to act upon one?s own initiative within the context
of professional boundaries and accountability.
* Ability to manage crisis intervention situations.
* Flexibility, adaptability, and openness to change.
* Awareness of the importance of confidentiality and discretion

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

* Experience of providing support to drug/ alcohol users in a
community setting.
* Experience of working with families, partners, and friends of
substance misusers.
* Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
* Knowledge of statutory and voluntary agencies and their role in
service provision for substance misuse

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

* Have a level 8 qualification in Counselling/Psychotherapy with full
accreditation with IACP (or equivalent international body)
AND
* Significant experience (a minimum of five years) providing
counselling/psychotherapy support to individuals with drug/alcohol
issues.
AND
* Be a fully accredited supervisor with the IACP (or equivalent l
body) with a minimum of two years providing clinical supervision to
other professionals working in an addiction setting

PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL CRITERIA ? THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
WILL HAVE:

* Proven experience of working effectively in a team environment or
in a private capacity.
* Experience of using good interpersonal skills (written and oral)
across a diverse and wide range of audiences.
* Excellent Communication skills.
* Good IT skills and experience in report writing, progress reports
and annual reports.
* Car Owner with full clean driver?s license & use of own car for
work purposes is an essential requirement.

HEALTH:

The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the
duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as
would indicate a reasonable prospect of competence and ability to
render regular and efficient service in SDCP/ SWAN / TASP.
