SERVICE & OPERATIONS MANAGER

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The following describes the current role of the Service & Operations
Manager at Hand in Hand, the role includes, but is not limited to, the
following:

MANAGING FAMILIES AND SERVICES:

A family may be referred to service via the medical, nursing, or
social work staff in the hospital. They may also self-refer, get
recommendation from another family, find us on social media or the
website.

MANAGING THE CENTRE:

The Service & Operations Manager is responsible for health and safety,
fire safety and first aid within the centre. The Service & Operations
Manager is also responsible paying all utilities, insurance etc and
for cleaning the centre.

MANAGING FINANCES AND REPORTING:

The Service & Operations Manager is responsible for reporting to the
following:

* Board of Directors
* Auditor
* HSE (multiple divisions)
* Pobal (significant reporting for SSNO funding)
* Revenue Commissioner
* Charity Regulatory Authority
* National Cancer Control Programme
* Irish Cancer Society
* Other grant providers as required.

MANAGING STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS:

The Service & Operations Manager is responsible for training and
supervision of staff and volunteers. Including recruitment, annual
review, vetting and salaries. The Service & Operations Manager is
responsible for Child Protection and Safeguarding.

MANAGING GOVERNANCE:

The Service & Operations Manager has developed an extensive range of
policies and procedures which require review and amendment
intermittently. The role also carries responsibility for compliance
with best practice and charity legislation. Arranging meetings,
setting agendas and recording/distributing minutes.

OTHER DUTIES:

The Service & Operations Manager represents children?s cancer
support services at national level. Both with the Irish Cancer Society
and the National Cancer Control Programme. This is through a range of
memberships with national networks and steering groups. Duties within
this include developing national best practice standards and
developing a model of care for cancer patients.

The Service & Operations Manager deals with all general queries, in
person, by telephone or by email. This often requires providing advice
on other services, often adult cancer services or services for
children with non-cancer diagnoses.

The Service & Operations Manager attends events and speaks publicly
and, in the media, to further the cause of the charity. There is a
significant duty to develop and maintain positive relationships with
major donors and influencers.
