SALARY:?CDYSB Youth Work Scale on a Pro Rata basis. There is
currently no public sector pension associated with this post.

CONTRACT: Fixed purpose contract with the initial contract ending on

appointment will commence on a date to be confirmed at the conclusion
of the selection process. Contract may be renewed depending on
performance and continuation of funding.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: The School Completion Programme aims to have
significant positive impact on levels of young people?s retention in
primary and secondary level schools and on numbers of pupils who
successfully complete the Senior Cycle, or equivalent.?Tullamore SCP
works with children and young people in 6 primary and 2 post-primary
schools in both Tullamore and Clara. SCP work focuses on providing
targeted and universal interventions to young people identified to be
most at risk of early school leaving It also involves supporting
students to stay in school through a series of initiatives such as
breakfast clubs, homework clubs, afterschool supports and
evidence-based programmes.

ROLE OF THE PROJECT WORKER: To assist in the development of programmes
that support students at risk of early school leaving. This is done
through working with the SCP team and school personnel in the
provision of a variety of programmes and initiatives. We are seeking
an adaptive, reflective and empathetic individual.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

* Work on a one to one or small group basis with pupils who have been
identified as being at risk of leaving school early.
* Planning and delivering programmes of work appropriate to
identified needs of the pupils or groups you will engage with.
* Working closely with the staff of various schools and agencies
involved in the Project, in relation to planning, implementing and
evaluating all programmes.
* To establish a link and network with the relevant local and
regional services and agencies.
* Engage out of school students in Iscoil.
* Maintaining records of all your work.
* Reporting regularly to the Co-ordinator and the SCP Management
Committee.
* Undertaking any other work relevant to the development of the
programme as may arise.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

* A recognised third level qualification (minimum level 8 on the NFQ)
in a relevant discipline - education, psychology, social science/care,
youth/community work or a related discipline.
* Have an understanding of social and educational disadvantage and
the needs of those who are at risk of early school leaving.
* Experience of working with young people within a supportive
environment (in one to one settings and in group settings).
* Experience of providing emotional support to young people and the
ability to build a positive rapport with children and young people.
* Group facilitation experience.
* Knowledge of evidence-based practices and programmes.
* Understanding of outcomes focused work and Children First
Guidelines.
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Excellent planning, organisational, networking and report writing
skills.
* ICT proficient.
* Own transport essential in order to carry out SCP duties in both
Tullamore and Clara.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

* Experience of working in schools.
* Skills and talents that are transferrable to developing programmes
that will engage students at risk of early school leaving. These might
include art, sports, music, dance, multimedia, therapeutic
interventions etc.
* Experience of working therapeutically with young children
* Training in therapeutic or health allied practices i.e. cognitive
behavioural therapy, mental health promotion, art/play/music therapy
etc.
