PROJECT SUPPORT WORKERS

Cork Simon Community works in solidarity with men and women who are
homeless in Cork, offering housing and support in their journey back
to independent living. We promote a socially just society and campaign
for a society without homelessness.

The Community works to a set of six core values: Community, Diversity,
Social Justice, Voluntarism, Commitment to Care and Inclusion.

CORK SIMON COMMUNITY ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR VARIOUS
PROJECT SUPPORT WORKER POSTS.

_PURPOSE OF THE POST:_ Maintain an environment where residents feel
accepted, respected, secure and valued. To empower residents and
maximises their independence and ability to move on to a more
independent living option as appropriate. The Project Support Worker
will work with Team Leaders, key workers/ case managers and specialist
team members to implement care/support plans and help residents
achieve their goals.

_SOME OF THE KEY DUTIES OF THE ROLES INCLUDE:_

* Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all residents
* Carry out Health and Safety checks and follow relevant procedures.
* Provide for personal hygiene / showers, clean clothes, laundry,
meals, clean rooms to a high standard.
* Assist in implementing a programme of social activities as
organised by or with residents and people using services as
appropriate
* Act as an advocate when appropriate
* Build a relationship with residents based on trust & respect by
accepting people as they are, spending time with them, actively
listening and challenging them positively and proactively to make
positive changes at a pace suitable to each person
* Act as an advocate when appropriate
* Night-time security and monitoring of the building and its
environs

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS POST WILL HAVE:

* Have previous experience in a care setting
* Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Have the ability to motivate and empower people
* Have a knowledge of homelessness
* Have a knowledge of Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol issues and
the range of responses
* Have excellent numeric and written skills
