We?re looking for a Cancer Awareness Officer to join our team. As
Cancer Awareness Officer you will play a key part in helping to catch
cancer early by delivering early detection and cancer awareness
programmes.

WHAT YOU?LL DO

Catching cancer early is a key factor in increasing survival from
cancer. COVID-**Apply on the website** has damaged progress in this
area, and in the Irish Cancer Society we are committed to reversing
this trend.
In **Apply on the website**, we piloted an early detection programme
our Your Health Matters Roadshow. This Roadshow travels to shopping
centres and other high-traffic areas in communities, to provide cancer
information and advice on supports. At the Roadshow, members of the
public who may be concerned about signs and symptoms of cancer can get
a free nurse-led heath check, and onward referral to a GP if needed.
As?Cancer Awareness Officer, you will be responsible for the
organisation of the operations and logistics of programmes such as the
Roadshow. You will work across projects and initiatives under our
early detection strategy, and work with the Cancer Awareness
Coordinator to deliver new early detection and awareness programmes
and events.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

_HEALTH PROMOTION DELIVERY_

* Deliver cancer awareness and early detection talks, workshops and
programmes to employers, community groups, schools and other
audiences, and online and digital programmes.
* Deliver effective training internally and externally.
* Keep up to date on health promotion and heath behaviour trends and
initiatives, and share your insights across the team.
* Gather and analyse data and feedback to support the quality,
performance and impact of our programmes,

_COMMUNICATIONS AND CONTENT CREATION_

* Create copy and content to promote cancer awareness and early
detection to the public across multiple channels.
* Develop impactful content for training and programme delivery,
including online and face-to-face.

_PROJECT DELIVERY AND EVENT MANAGEMENT_

* Work as part of the cancer awareness team, and with colleagues
across the Society, to support the coordination and implementation of
our early detection strategy, and awareness and prevention activities.
* Work effectively across our early detection and cancer awareness
projects, such as our Roadshow programme, public awareness campaigns,
or corporate engagement initiatives.
* Organise and run events for the cancer awareness team, and the
wider Society, including engaging with external providers and internal
teams, taking the lead on operational delivery.
* Be a day-to-day contact point for volunteers and third party
vendors supporting the Society?s cancer awareness activities.

The right candidate for this role is:

catching cancer early and changing behaviour and systems to enable
better health, and want to learn and grow your knowledge in this area.

clinicians you understand what makes people tick, and create effective
relationships.
* A GREAT COMMUNICATOR: you are able to communicate effectively

your style to meet the audience where they are.
* TECHNOLOGICALLY SAVVY:?you?re comfortable using digital and
technology tools across your work, and identifying new ways that
technology can support early detection.
* ORGANISED AND EFFECTIVE:?you work effectively within a project
team, working to deadlines and pulling together to achieve a goal. You
are highly organised, and methodical in ensuring events, training or
other initiatives are delivered to a high quality.
* FLEXIBLE AND OPEN TO TRAVEL:?engaging with the public means
meeting them where they are, and when they need. You will spend time
travelling within Ireland (e.g. to Roadshows, talks or workshops)
including occasional overnight stays, and weekend/ evening work may be
required.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

* You will hold a third level qualification in health promotion or in
a related area (e.g. health sciences, nursing, teaching, nutrition,
sports and exercise), or equivalent ?on the job? experience.
* You will typically have c. 2 years? experience in health
promotion. The Society measures experience based on the quality of the
experience obtained, rather than in time passed and welcomes
applicants at all stages of their career.
* You will have experience in running effective events, and engaging
across a range of stakeholders.
