SHINE ADVOCACY OFFICER

CONDITIONS

REPORTING: The post holder will report to the Head of Advocacy and
Communications
CONTRACT: Fixed term 3-year contract

LOCATION: Shine has offices nationwide so there is flexibility on
office base and there will be also be opportunity for remote working.

PURPOSE OF ROLE

This is a brand new role in Shine which has arisen from our Strategic
Plan **Apply on the website**.

**Apply on the website**, Shine will develop and implement a strong
organisation wide advocacy platform, delivering a national family
advocacy programme and positioning the organisation as a significant
influencer for change in policy and service provision. The purpose of
the role is to ensure that Shine?s Strategic advocacy agenda
reflects and supports people with mental ill health and their family
members.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

* Work closely with and report to the Head of Advocacy and
Communications, assisting with the development of Shine's strategic
policy position in relation to families, mental health and recovery.
* Design and implement strategies to bring about change to mental
health services at local and national level.
* Assist Head of Advocacy and Communications to prepare policy
statements, papers, submissions and reports with evidence-based
recommendations.
* Engagement with Shine?s members, support groups and staff to
discuss the needs of all those affected by mental ill health and what
can be done to improve mental health policies at a local and national
level.
* Develop a grassroots advocacy network that will inform and
influence local and national policy.
* Develop effective and co-operative relationships with politicians,
policy makers and other stakeholders.
* Assist Shine?s staff members in promoting Shine?s work and
building strategic and political alliances at local level.
* Organise advocacy meetings and events at a regional and national
level.
* Undertake any additional responsibilities in line with the key
objectives of the role as and when they arise.
* Support the Head of Advocacy and Communications with media outputs
and communications relevant to advocacy
* To travel nationally as required

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

* Excellent written and verbal communications skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policies and
developments in the area of mental health.
* Responsive, flexible and able to work under pressure
* Knowledge and understanding of the policy making process.
* Experience of facilitating and presenting information to groups
* Ability to work on own initiative and consult where appropriate
* Passionate about improving the lives of those affected by mental
ill health

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

* Third level qualification in politics, communications, advocacy or
law.

advocacy, communications, politics, social policy or law.
* Must have full clean driver's license with use of own car
