People motivators make the census

The census is a survey of the entire population of England and Wales
that happens every **Apply on the website** years. It&#**Apply on the
website**;s run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and gives
us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.

The information we collect is used to make decisions that affect
everyone - things like how many schools, surgeries and hospitals we
need.

To make the census a success, we need a team of active, outgoing
officers who can encourage people to complete the Census **Apply on
the website** online questionnaire.

Our mobile team of census officers move into different areas across
England and Wales depending on where support is most needed.

The role

Are you an energetic team player who is willing to travel? Given the
unique nature of the census, we need mobile officers who are willing
to work anywhere across England or Wales at short notice.

In this important, temporary role, you will be given a daily workload
of household addresses that are yet to complete a census
questionnaire. You will visit the addresses and help householders in
completing their questionnaire - either yourself or by referring them
to available support. This will usually take place on the doorstep,
but you might occasionally support your colleagues at community
completion events, too.

Although you will work independently, you will be part of a team, with
support from a team leader who will help you settle into your role.

About you

We are looking for self-starters who can use smartphones and apps,
maintain accurate, timely records, and keep the public&#**Apply on the
website**;s data safe. You will need plenty of stamina, because you
will be travelling at short notice, knocking on doors, and meeting
people from all walks of life.

Some residents will have objections to filling in the questionnaire,
and you will need to be encouraging, engaging and confident to help
them overcome these barriers.

You will need space at home you can use as an office and be able to
travel throughout England and Wales with no less than **Apply on the
website** hours&#**Apply on the website**; notice. You must be
prepared to stay overnight or longer as required. We will assist you
in arranging accommodation where necessary and cover your expenses.

You will also need to be able to travel to, and around, your assigned
areas, so you will need a current full UK driving licence and use of a
motor vehicle (insured for business use). We will pay you a mileage
allowance for this.

For roles in Wales, knowledge of Welsh would be an advantage.

To be considered for the role, you must be available from **Apply on
the website** March **Apply on the website** to **Apply on the
website** April **Apply on the website** inclusive.

People make the census. If you are looking for valuable, temporary
work and are interested in making Census **Apply on the website** a
success for everyone, apply for a mobile census officer role.

We can only employ you if you are eligible to work for the Civil
Service. Find out more about the Civil Service nationality rules.
