ROLE:

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to provide support to across
our Dublin services. Depaul is a values-led organisation working with
a number of homeless services throughout Dublin and Belfast. This post
holder will be responsible for providing specialist mental health
support to service users across number of services in ROI. The ideal
candidate for this post will be a good communicator, show an ability
to be flexible, use their initiative and apply sound decision making
skills. A willingness to work as part of a wider team is essential.

* KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

* To offer specialist support to service users around their mental
health needs.
* To work with all service users to build professional relationships
based on empathy and positive regard and to deal with difficult or
problematic situations in a sensitive, supportive manner in line with
Depaul?s vision, mission and values.
* To assess the safety & wellbeing and support needs of service
users with particular reference to those with mental health needs.
* To plan and facilitate appropriate supports and interventions to
respond and meet those needs in a structured way.
* To work on a one to one basis with service users to support them
to have increased agency and choice in the management of their mental
health needs.
* To regularly liaise with key workers around client mental health
needs and offer support and advice as required.
* To make referrals to appropriate external services.
* To support service users to access relevant external services and
to promote maximum service user agency and involvement in developing
support planning and interventions with external agencies
* To accompany service users to appointments when necessary; this
may include hospitals, prison, courts etc.
* To develop and maintain ongoing professional relationships with
variety of mental health services (i.e.? ? ACCES mental health
team, Health professionals and Health services).
* To advocate for psychological / psychiatric assessments where
appropriate and in the interest of the service user.
* In conjunction with the management and project team and through
proven communication skills, to continue to develop superior working
relationships with key agencies on behalf of our clients with mental
health issues these may include City and County Councils and other
statutory bodies or agencies with particular regard to benefits and
health issues.
* To advocate for appropriate move on options for service users with
mental health issues and to facilitate and carry out resettlement
assessments with clients. Where appropriate and in conjunction with
tenancy sustainment teams, to carry out follow up visits and exit
interviews with those clients who are moving on.?
* To promote good mental health and wellness for services users and
staff.?
* To work with volunteers to facilitate therapeutic time and
activities for services users in the hostel and to promote wellness
activities and psychologically informed environments (PIE).
* To engage and work proactively with services users who have dual
diagnosis issues and to promote an ?open door? policy with
external agencies in relation to dual diagnosis.
* To ensure accurate and clear records are maintained in line with
Depaul?s policies and procedures
* To ensure all quality assurance policies and procedures are
adhered to.

Proficient use of IT required in role, including email in a
professional capacity

* PERSON REQUIREMENTS

?

* A minimum of 2 years? experience working in the homeless sector
or another related field, with people requiring mental health support.
* A qualification in nursing, social work or other related area
would be desirable.
* An understanding of why people become homeless and the issues they
experience, particularly in relation to people requiring mental health
support
* The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in
writing
* The ability to work independently and as part of a team ? An
understanding of relevant models of interventions that can be applied
in working with people experiencing homelessness ? Experience
responding to crisis, knowledge of appropriate actions and use of
initiative to support others
* An ability to liaise effectively with other service providers and
represent the organisation externally
* An understanding of the statutory and voluntary sector resources
available to homeless people
