PART-TIME HELPLINE ASSISTANT (6-MONTH CONTRACT)

The national Crime Victims Helpline (CVH) is a listening and support
service for victims of crime in Ireland. We provide time and space for
victims to talk about their experiences. We answer questions about the
criminal justice system and provide information about victim support
services and other resources in the community.

THE ROLE

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and reliable person to join
our small team. The Helpline Assistant answers the helpline and
responds to victim contacts over text and email. The Helpline
Assistant must be non-judgemental, compassionate and genuinely
interested in listening to others. The role also requires providing
accurate information about the criminal justice system as well as
referrals to other victim support organisations.

The role provides support to Helpline volunteers. This involves being
available to volunteers for debriefing and answering queries.

The Helpline Assistant works in close collaboration with the Helpline
Support Worker and reports to the Executive Director.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provide phone support to victims of crime and others who ring the
helpline. This includes active listening; providing information; and
making appropriate referrals.
* Check and respond to emails and texts and other communications
from service users
* Maintain accurate reports and records of contacts with the
Helpline
* Provide support to Helpline volunteers
* Carry out routine office tasks

HOURS: The Helpline Assistant is a part-time (**Apply on the website**
hours), two-day-a-week position. The preferred days of work are
Tuesday and Thursday but there may be some flexibility. Opportunity
for additional hours will arise from time to time for training,
covering annual leave and other events.

LOCATION: Dublin 2; with occasional home working (when possible and if
desired)

CONTRACT: This is a fixed term, six-month contract.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

THE IDEAL PERSON WILL HAVE:

* A desire to help victims of crime
* A compassionate and warm personality
* Experience providing support and information, preferably over the
phone
* Awareness of issues impacting victims of crime
* Knowledge of the criminal justice system
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Experience with MS Office, particularly Word and Excel
* Ability to work independently and to take initiative
* Tact, common sense and respect for confidentiality
* A desire to learn and a receptiveness to feedback
* A good understanding of professional boundaries with service users
and colleagues
