Job Description
The Plant Manager’s primary responsibilities include leading the operation and maintenance staff, the daily management and coordination of plant operations including production, logistics and maintenance while ensuring compliance with all labour, safety, environmental and corporate policies and regulations.
This is a hands-on position that is responsible for maximising daily production. This position plays an integral part in plant operations, special projects, and has responsibility developing and maintaining a motivated staff and for developing and achieving budgetary and production targets.
Key Tasks:
Develop and manage the strategies, plans and budgets as agreed with the Business Director to achieve the organisational and financial objectives of the company. This includes working closely with the Business Director in the drafting and agreeing of strategy and budget
In order to achieve the overall organisational and financial objectives by assuming responsibility for setting, and controlling budgets, targets and objectives (KPIs), providing regular reports on progress to the Business Director, highlighting variances from these
Taken from the business plan and strategy it is essential that all functions within the Company are coordinated and given the necessary direction, control and management and operating to agreed objectives, budgets and targets
To ensure targets and objectives within each area of the business are met it is important to ensure good people management practices in line with the Company’s strategic HR policies
Ensure that the key roles are staffed with people who can effectively undertake their roles in the business and that the roles are clearly defined and understood and all personnel are motivated and developed to achieve the business’s objectives. The manager will have responsibility for developing a clear performance objectives for each employee
Provide a customer focused approach throughout the Company; building and maintaining the contacts necessary for the future development of the business, proactively promoting the Company
Effectively manage labour requirements/manpower planning, production planning, stock management , instrumentation calibration, plant modifications and develop innovative systems and processes utilising all available technology
Key skills and experience
Recent management experience, preferably in a mechanical/electrical engineering or manufacturing environment with experinece of reporting to board level
Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and have taken further studies related to business and management
Leadership, a natural ability to lead people and lead by example, the manager will be required to quickly command respect and loyalty even when making difficult decisions
Strong interpersonal skills, the manager must be able to speak with employees, other department managers and senior management
Readiness to evaluate alternatives and make decisions even when all information required is not available
Understanding of the management principles, including finance, health and safety, quality and HR. Ensure compliance to company policies proceedures and standards
Capacity to manage change – identify problems, their causes and practical solutions
Critical thinking and Intellectual capabilities to analyse difficult business problems, getting to the route cause of the problems and generating workable solutions in line with objectives
Initiative and drive, candidate must have a willingness initiate and drive these until results are achieved
Ability to effectively manage their time and that of others. Manager will face production deadlines, shipping dates and more and must prioritise accordingly.
Ensure that manufacturing equipment is maintained, supported and available (as measured by OEE%)
Proactively engage with equipment suppliers to ensure that their expertise contributes to the effective operation of production equipment and resolution of problems
Requirements
Essential
B.Eng Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Recent experience of managing a team in a production environment
Familiarity with gathering and analysiing production, quality and maintenance data
Regular experience of compiling and presenting production and financial reports
Full driving licence
Desirable
8 years experience of managing a team in a production environment
‘Hands on’ engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
Proven record of identifying innovative technical solutions
Quantifiable evidence of reducing production costs
Experience of building strong working relationships with all stakeholders both inernally and externally
Working knowledge of management principles including Finance, Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, Human Resources etc
Evidence of contiuous professional and personal development

Circa £50K based on prior relevant experience
