Anew provides practical and emotional support to pregnant women and
new mothers who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of
homelessness. Our service is unique, offering accommodation with a
range of specialised interventions and supports to improve pre- and
post-natal outcomes for women, as well as working towards long-term
homes. We provide Supported Temporary Accommodation in North Dublin,
and Day services in Dublin City Centre.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

A part-time accredited counsellor to support the women we work with
through trauma based therapeutic interventions and therapeutic
parenting support. Reporting to the Senior Service Manager, the
successful candidate will be responsible for working directly with
clients within our Day Services and providing a safe, secure
environment for clients.

* To provide one to one counselling to women and couples in
accordance with Anew?s policies and procedures.
* To create a safe place where the client can discuss and explore
presenting issues.
* To provide therapeutic parenting interventions.
* To provide trauma informed counselling.
* To provide group programmes.

LOCATION AND HOURS OF WORK

Based at?Anew?s Centre in Pearse Street, Dublin 2, this is
a?part-time,?fixed-term contract?for?six months, based on a
one-day week with the possibility of a two-day week, salary DOE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

* To take telephone calls to the dedicated Freephone line from
clients.
* Assessment of telephone callers needs and referral as appropriate.
* Maintenance a clinical caseload in proportion to other duties of
the role. A guideline for a regular working week for a full-time
counselling post is approx. **Apply on the website** client face to
face contact hours from those providing counselling to clients.
* To inform clients about psycho-social implications of attending
the counselling service.
* Attend monthly external supervision meetings.
* Regular liaison with supervisor where necessary.
* Maintain accreditation.

Administration & Accountability

* To prepare reports as required.
* To work as a member of an integrated professional team.
* To comply with Tusla, DRHE, HSE and other applicable guidelines.
* In consultation with the Anew?s team, balance a reasonable case
load of individual clients with an appropriate proportion of group
work and educational work.
* Keep accurate case notes.
* To keep records and observe professional standards in respect of
confidentiality and security.
* To engage in in-service and other relevant training opportunities
and to keep up to date with new developments in the area of
psychotherapy.
* To provide statistics on services as required.
* Keep records and observe professional standards in respect of
confidentiality.
* Co-operate with staff policy and review procedures.
* Support the establishment of administration and reporting systems.

Service Development and Evaluation

* To play an active role in the development of the service.
* To contribute to an objective evaluation of the effectiveness of
the service as required.
* Assist with the implementation of psychotherapy service plans.
* Referral and liaison with other community members and agencies.
* Regular meetings with line management.
* Providing outreach services where applicable.
* Conduct and co-ordinate parenting courses as applicable.
* Conduct research within the service as necessary.
* To take an active role in supporting the development of quality
standards throughout the organisation.
* Support the training needs of new & existing volunteers/staff.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

* Third level qualification in counselling.
* Current full accreditation with the IACP or similar accreditation
body.
* Experience of working with women who have experienced domestic
abuse.
* Understanding of risk and needs assessment and of the principle of
risk management.
* Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Non-judgmental attitude.
* The ability to maintain professional boundaries.
* Good time management skills to manage a busy caseload.
* The ability to work as part of a team, and on own initiative where
required.
* To be able to problem solve, to have good judgement and
decision-making skills.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

* A working Knowledge and insight into the issues affecting women who
are pregnant and experiencing or at risk of homelessness and the
impact on their physical, emotional, and psychological development.
* Experiences of working with people with complex needs.
