Lead Counsel-EU Data Protection

growing to meet this vision, and we are seeking highly motivated and
experienced team players to serve as Data Protection Counsels on
Facebook?s EU Product Counselling team.

There are several positions open across all of Facebook?s product
areas, and our multinational Data Protection team is open to hiring
into several locations:
Dublin, London, Hamburg, Berlin or Paris. Relocation assistance is
available.

The role of Data Protection Counsel is a great opportunity for any
candidate who is keen to tackle some of today?s toughest and
important legal challenges in this cutting-edge area of law. The
successful candidates will be joining a growing international Legal
team and working on issues in a vibrant, fast-paced environment.

The role will focus on strategic and tactical legal counselling to
internal legal, product, operations, and business teams in order to
assess compliance with GDPR and applicable data protection laws, and
to identify and mitigate legal risk in all phases of product
development. The ideal candidate will have experience advising on GDPR
and privacy regulatory compliance in respect of novel legal issues and
products, good judgment, a strong work ethic, and a keen interest in
learning about new technologies.

Collaborate with product and various business teams at all stages of
product development to assess data protection compliance and to
identify any potential legal risk and provide counseling on
risk-mitigation

Analyse products, policies and initiatives to provide practical legal
risk mitigation strategies for products across multiple jurisdictions

Monitor and respond to developments in data protection and relevant
consumer laws (i.e., new laws, regulations, important judgements,
regulatory guidance, etc.)Provide full-service support to wider legal
team on EU regulatory and litigation matters and liaising with
regulators

Provide policy, legal, product, engineering, and other business teams
with legal advice on data protection laws and regulations including
for external communication, policy development, and enforcement
decisions

Lawyer qualified to practice law in at least one European jurisdiction

Minimum of 4 years of relevant post qualification legal experience,
including at a law firm or prior in-house experience (applicable
litigation, regulatory or more general product counselling experience
will be considered)
In-depth knowledge of, and experience working on, legal issues in the
area of data protection laws and the GDPR, including a solid
understanding of the operation of online social media platforms

Excellent problem-solving, written and oral communication and
interpersonal skills

While we are open to candidates from all backgrounds, experience
working with mobile, application development, eCommerce products,
social networking, online advertising (B2B and B2C), machine learning,
or other Internet technologies and a solid understanding of ad tech
would be an advantage

_EXPERIENCE WORKING_ directly with European Data Protection
Authorities a plus

Demonstrated ability to work independently in fast-paced environment
and provide pragmatic and considered advice under tight deadline

The working language for this role will be English - knowledge of, or
fluency in, other European languages a plus
