ADVOCACY AND COMMUNICATIONS

The Research Officer works as part of the Advocacy and Communications
team. Age Action engages with the Government, policymakers, statutory
agencies, other advocacy groups and the media to ensure that issues
related to ageing and that affect older people are addressed. The
advocacy work involves producing evidence-based policy recommendations
to inform the development of public policy. Our communications
function in the organisation involves working with the media and
creating impactful digital and print communications content suitable
for a broad stakeholder audience. The team is also responsible for
advising and supporting other teams on issues related to policy,
research and evaluation in their own work.

THE ROLE

The Research Officer reports to the Head of Advocacy and
Communications.

You will support the work of the Advocacy and Communications team, in
line with the organisation?s Strategy, in the following ways:

* Conduct desk-based research and collate evidence and analysis,
including statistical information, in a timely and accurate matter to
inform Age Action?s policy positions;
* Write briefing notes and summaries of relevant documents,
legislation and other material;
* Attend seminars and meetings, and write briefing notes to
summarise any useful information from these events;
* Consult with older persons through surveys, focus groups and other
means.

In the role, you will be expected to develop your own knowledge and
expertise in relation to ageing and in relation to public policies
that affect older persons and all of us as we age. Over time, you will
be expected to build and develop relationships with key stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

* Masters level qualification in gerontology, social policy, social
science, human rights, law, economics or a related discipline.
* Ability to use data and statistical information to inform
analysis.
* Competence with standard ICT, including Microsoft Office.
* Aptitude for applying an equality and human rights-based framework
to social policy.
* Ability to write accurately and based on evidence.
* Good communication skills.
* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
* Good time management skills.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

* Experience in a policy development or research role
* Experience of working within the community and voluntary sector
* Knowledge of current international research on ageing and older
people
* Competence in statistical software.
* Understanding of public policy development in Ireland.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The post of Research Officer is a fixed term post for **Apply on the
website** months from date of appointment. The salary for the post

a **Apply on the website**-hour working work. Time off in lieu will be
provided for any requirement to work outside normal office hours in
the evenings or weekends.

Age Action practices a hybrid working model, combining office-based
work in our offices in Camden Street, Dublin 2 and working remotely.
Some travel may be necessary.
