Office of Senator Frances Black: Political Assistant
Independent Senator Frances Black is seeking a self-employed Political
Policy And Research Assistant to support her office in Seanad Eireann.

The successful candidate will work 3 days per week on legislative and
policy development related to her capacity as a public representative
and as a member of the Oireachtas.

DUTIES INVOLVED

* Coordinating with the other Senators and staff of the Civil
Engagement Group.
* Managing legislative proposals, legislative amendments & major
policy reform projects.
* Engaging with Oireachtas systems, including parliamentary
committees, political parties & groupings, and the Oireachtas Library.
* Proven writing and analytical skills with experience of writing
speaking notes, briefings, and articles for media.

QUALITIES SOUGHT IN CANDIDATE

* Strong understanding of Irish policymaking processes, how change
happens, and how the Houses of the Oireachtas and other key
institutions work.
* Ability to work to a high standard with tight deadlines.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own
initiative as required.
* Courtesy, discretion, and consideration for others.
* Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing contexts and shifting
schedules.
* A passion for progressive political change and policy reform.

KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

* Graduate qualification in political science, development studies,
law or other relevant social science, or relevant experience in lieu
of academic qualification.
* Strong research and policy analysis skills
* Proven strategic and analytic ability.
* Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
* Ability to communicate complex issues simply, both verbally and in
writing.

ADDITIONAL BENEFICIAL EXPERIENCE

* Experience or understanding of policy, politics, and legislation.
* Experience in civil society advocacy, campaigning, and community
development.
* Experience in public relations and communications roles.
* Experience in research.
* Experience of building constructive working relationships with
diverse stakeholders, and of working in networks or coalitions.
