Our service users come from all backgrounds and may have a range of
complex issues. This may include mental health problems, domestic
violence, bereavement, unemployment, alcohol and addictions issues
etc.

OVERVIEW

Depaul?s Facilities Team provides support to all of our frontline
services in many different ways. They provide on-site repairs and
maintenance such as plumbing, repair or replacement of broken items,
carpentry, removals and deliveries and so on. The Facilities Team are
a very important part of Depaul in that they ensure that our services
are safe and in good repair, which in turn helps the people that use
our services to feel safe and welcome. The Facilities team also is
responsible for brining in outside contractors for specialist work
such as electricians, building contractors and servicing of equipment.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a person who has experienced homelessness to work
with our facilities team in two areas ? in providing support to the
facilities team in areas such as painting, repairs, groundskeeping and
general DIY. The second area of responsibility is in PAT testing ?
this stands for Portable Appliance Testing. Every year, Depaul would
wish to check every small electrical appliance in our services to
ensure it is safe and not at risk of causing a fire or electrocuting
someone. This involves two tasks ? visually checking the appliance
for damage to the cord, connection, plug etc and secondly, plugging
the appliance into a machine to check that it?s working correctly.
We will then document the results and alert the manager of the service
if there are any items that are unsafe.

MAINTENANCE SUPPORT WORKER MAIN TASKS:

* Support the team to carry out of day to day maintenance in Depaul
projects such as painting and minor repairs. Training will be provided
and there will be ongoing support
* Carry out testing of all portable electrical appliances in the
homeless services and offices operated by Depaul
* Travel to Depaul Services in the wider Dublin area and to regional
services to carry out PAT testing
* Keep accurate records of the results of PAT testing - training and
report templates will be provided
* Assist with planning, scheduling and coordinating a yearly PAT
testing schedule
* Ensure you are working in line with our health and safety
guidelines throughout all work duties and report any concerns if
necessary to your line manager
* Report and log all completed repairs on a continuous basis ?
training will be provided
* Support colleagues on property related activities as identified by
your manager
* To attend team meetings and any training organised by the
coordinator which has been identified as beneficial for your
progression in the role.
* To respect resident?s rights to confidentiality in our
relationship with them as per the Depaul Confidentiality policy and
code of conduct.
* To promote respect, diversity and equal opportunities.
* To attend supervision sessions with the Senior Maintenance Worker
to discuss your professional development.

SKILLS OF A MAINTENANCE SUPPORT WORKER

The ideal candidate should:

* Have a LIVED EXPERIENCE OF HOMELESSNESS
* Have some EXPERIENCE OF DIY, painting, manual work etc
* Be willing to TRAVEL
* Practice good TIME KEEPING
* Have good WRITTEN AND VERBAL COMMUNICATION skills
* Be SECURE IN THEIR RECOVERY if relevant
* Be confident in using computers (emails, word documents)
