JOB DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION
JOB TITLE: Head of Adult Education
* To manage the Down Syndrome Ireland Adult Education programme
* To progress and promote further education pathways for adults with
Down syndrome within the ETB sector
* To advocate for lifelong learning opportunities for adults with
Down syndrome
* To develop educational programmes and resources for adults with
Down syndrome
* To engage with stakeholders to continually evaluate and revise
existing programmes to better meet the needs of adult learners with
Down syndrome
* To stay informed on national and international research, to ensure
that all programmes follow best practice
DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
Adult Education
* Maintain and develop partnerships with ETBs nationally
* Deliver training on course content and methodologies to educators
* Maintain and develop partnerships with key stakeholders
* Oversee the online DSI academy portal
* Higher level education: Promote the integration of adults with
Down syndrome in mainstream higher-level education
Awareness
* Develop disability awareness-raising materials and campaigns.
Provide support and guidance regarding messaging and imagery.
* Provide disability awareness training within the further education
sector
* Promote the inclusion of adults with Down syndrome in the further
and higher education sectors
Information provision & dissemination; providing expertise
* Preparation of DSI publications, guides and online resources.
* Coordinate national School leavers conferences and other webinars
and conferences as needed
* Provide career guidance to school leavers through publications and
website
Management (The role reports directly to the CEO)
* Manage the adult education team and stakeholders
* Manage the department budget
* Report to funders and stakeholders as required
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
* An acute understanding of the ethos of Down Syndrome Ireland and a
passionate belief in the abilities of people with Down syndrome.
* A high level of understanding of the further and higher education
sector
* Strong communication and presentation skills
* A background in education with practical teaching experience,
ideally at post-primary or adult education stages
* Experience developing and delivering training and workshops, both
in-person and online
* Good level of computer literacy
