ORGANISATIONAL DETAILS:

The Northside Traveller Support Group was incorporated under the
Companies Act in February **Apply on the website** with the Trading
Name of TravAct. It started as a small group of community minded
individuals, from both the Traveller and the Settled Communities, and
has grown over the years to encompass six different Projects (Drugs &
Alcohol Project; Primary Health Care Project; Community Employment
Project; Accommodation Outreach Project; Youth Project; Education
Project) funded by the HSE, Department of Health Drugs Policy Unit,
CDYSB, Department of Justice, the DEASP and the Darndale-Belcamp
Initiative. TravAct prides itself for the very high quality of

We are currently recruiting for two Community Development Workers on 6
Month Contracts to work alongside our established Projects to provide
additional short-term support during the post-Covid period of enhanced
activity.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POSTS

To provide additional short-term support in community development
through culturally appropriate responses in the fields of health and
youth-work, in conjunction with our established Projects in these
areas of activity. The primary aim being to provide a positive impact
and impetus to our work in these two areas for the Traveller Community
across the catchment areas of TravAct and to prepare a blueprint for
future growth in both these areas.

POST 1

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT HEALTH WORKER

The Community Development Health Worker will work in conjunction with
the Primary health care team with responsibility in a number of areas
including Travellers? health, housing and accommodation and
anti-racism work as they impact on health. The staff member will work
with and for the Traveller community across the catchment areas of
TravAct to implement the work of the operational plan over the next
five-month period. This worker will work with the PHC Coordinator,
Project Manager, and other Community Development and Health workers to
plan, implement and thus meet the aims of TravAct health support
plans. He/she will work alongside other Community Health Workers who
are all dedicated individuals whose functions range from individual
and community development to service delivery and promoting community
empowerment and social justice. They have been helping to link people
to needed health care information and services, to address the health
needs and interests of Travellers in the area to achieve collective
outcomes for Travellers over the past **Apply on the website** years.
The Community Development Health Worker will be expected to assist the
PHC Supervisor to infuse new energy into the functioning of the PHC
and the Community Health Workers. The role requires working in
conjunction with the other five TravAct Projects which include the CE
Scheme, The Community Accommodation Project, The Education Outreach,
The Drugs & Alcohol Outreach and the Youth Project. The Community
Development Health Worker will be expected to collate all the relevant
information and provide a written blueprint for the future growth and
sustainability of the PHC Project during the last month of their
assignment.

KEY TASKS

* To continue to update and identify the needs and interests and
challenges impacting on the health and well-being of Travellers.
* To assess and report on the efficacy, while implementing, the
current supportive work model we have established to build
professional working relationships based on trust and respect with
Travellers across the catchment areas of TravAct.
* To develop new initiatives/programmes/events which promote the
participation and address the marginalisation and isolation
experienced by Travellers.
* To develop community-based responses/supports in the areas of
mental health, addiction, and other complex health needs of
Travellers.
* To identify other professionals/NGO?s/health experts/local
organisations which can help us to improve our services and bring
about positive institutional change.
* To work as part of the staff team in TravAct and carry out any
other tasks which directly or indirectly bring about health equality
for the Traveller community.
* To work as a team to update community health response plans in the
event of public health outbreaks like Covid.
* To collate all the relevant information and provide a written
blueprint for the future growth and sustainability of the PHC Project.
To provide monthly interim written reports and the final written
report during the last month of their assignment.

REPORTING:

To report to the Manager TravAct through the PHC Supervisor

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE TO MEET THE FOLLOWING ESSENTIAL
REQUIREMENTS:

* Third Level Education to Degree standard preferably in Community
Work / Traveller Culture / Drugs & Alcohol / Health Promotion Work
(note: candidates with EXCEPTIONAL, relevant work experience may also
be considered in lieu of degree qualifications)
* Access to car and full driving licence
* Fluency with MS Office software
* Experience in recruiting target group

POST 2

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT YOUTH WORKER

The Community Development Youth Worker will work in conjunction with
the Youth Project to provide appropriate supports to ensure the
successful delivery of our youth work provision for Traveller young
people. The role will include the delivery of specific youth work
activities in conjunction with permanent staff. The Community
Development Youth Worker will deliver programmes in accordance with
the policies and procedures of TravAct in a number of areas including
young Travellers? development personally, socially and
educationally. The role also requires working in conjunction with the
other TravAct Projects which include the CE Scheme, The Community
Accommodation Project, The Education Outreach, The Drugs & Alcohol
Outreach and the PHC Project. The Community Development Youth Worker
will be expected to collate all the relevant information and provide a
written blueprint for the future growth and sustainability of the
Youth Project during the last month of their assignment.
