JOB ROLE: ONLINE TEACHERS OF ADULTS WITH DOWN SYNDROME PANEL

We are dedicated to being the primary source of information and
support to people with Down syndrome, their families and the
professional community, working towards an improved quality of life
for our members along with a respect and acceptance of people with
Down syndrome as valued members of society.

We place the person with Down syndrome at the centre of everything we
do. We recognise the value and uniqueness of every person with Down
syndrome and their unique and diverse needs.

We are committed to working towards a society where people with Down
syndrome have the same basic human rights to healthcare, education,
employment opportunities and decision-making as all other citizens.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Down Syndrome Ireland invites applications from suitably qualified and
experienced teachers to form a Teacher Panel for part-time, online
positions which may arise in Further Education in the following
subject areas:

* Music
* Movies
* Healthy Living and Wellbeing

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Create and maintain an atmosphere suitable for online learning.
* Organise and deliver lessons.
* Create a supportive class atmosphere to ensure learners?
engagement
* Keep records of learners? attendance.
* Track learners? progress over the duration of the course.
* Write an end of course report.
* Participate in the evaluation process of Down Syndrome Ireland.

SKILLS, BACKGROUND & QUALIFICATION

Successful candidates:

* Have teaching experience
* Have the ability to support the personal development of each
learner to develop the skills required to engage and progress in the
subject areas
* Take a learner-centred approach to course delivery
* Have excellent communication and listening skills
* Have good administration skills
* The ability to integrate I.T. based learning, literacy development
and other pedagogical skills and approaches

DESIRABLE SKILLS

* Knowledge and understanding of issues associated with Down
Syndrome.
* Experience working with people who have intellectual disabilities
and their families.
