provides support to people with neuromuscular conditions and their
families. Muscular Dystrophy Ireland envisages an Ireland that enables
people with neuromuscular conditions to fully participate in society
and reach their full potential.

Our mission is to support people with muscular dystrophy. We do this,
using a member-centred approach, by:

* Providing information and support to people with neuromuscular
conditions and their families through a range of support services.
* Advocating for services and entitlements for members, and
educating and informing society about the conditions.
* Supporting researchers and clinicians to carry out quality
research into neuromuscular conditions.

ABOUT MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY

Muscular dystrophy is a collective name for a range of neuromuscular
conditions. It is characterised as a progressive weakening, wasting
and loss of _muscle_ mass over time. It can present at birth,
childhood or manifest later in life.

PURPOSE OF JOB

MDI would like to recruit an experienced Counselling Supports National
Lead to project-manage and provide oversight to this new service
development and in so doing to develop sustainable implementation of
support and appropriate referral structures for existing counselling
and therapeutic support activity within MDI.

MDI are seeking to provide early intervention service-delivery
responses for our member families and provide therapeutic
interventions and counselling nationally to support and address
increasing demand in the aftermath of Covid-**Apply on the website**.
Using their knowledge and skills the Counselling Supports National
Lead will develop creative approaches to capture the impact of
COVID-**Apply on the website** on children and adults living with
muscular dystrophy and their families to inform our strategy and
planning into the future.

THE PERSON

If you are a creative, highly-motivated professional with exceptional
empathy, emotional intelligence, communication and interpersonal
skills, proven experience working in emotional support field, a
passion for setting your own goals and a desire to lead a department,
this could be the role for you.

You will share a commitment to the vision, mission, values and
strategic priorities of MDI.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

_SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE_

* Have a relevant third level qualification, such as in counselling,
social care, family support or community development.
* Have a strong knowledge and understanding of counselling and
therapeutic supports that are situated within a wider approach to
human rights, community development and family support, relevant to
children and families and with a life-course and inter-generational
perspective.
* A minimum of three years? relevant experience working within a
community context.
* Excellent communications and ICT skills.
* Self-starter with a process-improvement mindset.
* Willingness to learn and adapt, and encourages the same in others.
* Flexible, with ability to work on own initiative and
co-operatively as part of a team and liaise with senior managers.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

* Knowledge of the tasks involved in undertaking and managing
research projects relevant to counselling and therapeutic supports.
* Knowledge of financial management and reporting related to
counselling and therapeutic service activity.
* Knowledge of evidence informed practice, systems thinking, service
design and implementation science.
* Experience of building and developing strong working relationships
within a service team.
* Experience leading, managing, and motivating others.
* Experience of working with people with disabilities.
* Ability to organise and manage time effectively and to prioritise
workload in order to meet deadlines.
* Flexibility and adaptability in order to meet the demands of the
role and to work within varying locations and different settings.
* Carry out any other duties that may be required by the
organisation to fulfil the needs of the post.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

* This is a special purpose, one-year fixed-term contract initially,
with a possibility of renewal on a multi-annual basis, subject to
funding.
* The contract is subject to a six-month probationary period.
* Secondment arrangements will be considered.
* This role is eligible for Garda vetting.
* Pension scheme available.
