ABOUT BEST

BEST is a company limited by guarantee (CLG) and registered charity,
established in **Apply on the website** as a Ballymun community
response to the significant issue of at risk and disengaged young
people within the education system. BEST currently receives its
funding from TESS SCP.

BEST has a clear child centred approach as the core of its ethos. The
focus of the work is delivering tailored support to children and young
people in and out of school, at primary and post primary level, who
present with complex needs. These needs stem from multiple factors
impacting the community including; intergenerational trauma, mental
health, drug use, violence, poverty and the resulting experiences of
living in cycles of crisis.

We are currently recruiting for the following positions

VACANCY:

1 x full time OR 2 x part time Project Workers

OVERVIEW OF ROLE:

* To work with targeted young people at primary and post primary
school level who have been identified as being at risk;
* To develop/deliver innovative and intensive personal/social
development programmes on a one to one and group basis both in school
and out of school settings,
* To work as part of a school care team and a wider BEST Team.

REQUIREMENTS: CANDIDATES MUST;

* Hold a relevant degree level qualification in Psychology, Applied
Social Care/Social Studies, Education, Youth Work, or an equivalent
qualification.
* Have a minimum of three years post graduate experience in the
provision of services for young people at risk;
* Be able to promote and nurture the education and social
development of young people by planning and tailoring programmes using
a trauma informed approach;
* Be able to model positive relationships and support the positive
ongoing development of young people presenting with personal, social
and emotional needs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT OVERVIEW:

* Specified Purpose Contract

* A degree of flexibility is required. Time off will be given in
lieu of any required overtime worked.
* Garda Vetting will be required for each role.

IN SCHOOL SERVICE; PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

This service is a school-based programme that operates at both primary
and post primary levels in the Ballymun area. The focus of this
service is to support and work closely with students who would, for a
number of factors, be at risk of early school leaving.

* Work on a one to one or small group basis with students who have
been identified as being at risk of leaving school early;
* Support young people by delivering programmes that develop
interpersonal skills, self-awareness, resilience and coping strategies
etc;
* Co-ordinate a structured caring approach within the school whilst
complementing existing structures;
* Provide support and advocacy for the target young people;
* Develop personalised programmes for targeted young people who are
experiencing ongoing challenges in school and are at risk of/on
suspension;
* Foster links between students, parents and school in conjunction
with Home School Liaison;
* Access appropriate resources/agencies required to support the
needs of the children and young people we work with.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* To assist in the implementation of the BEST SCP project as outlined

Plan submitted to the Tusla, Child and Family Agency;
* To further the aims of Ballymun Educational Support Team SCP (BEST
SCP) by participating in the development/delivery of child centred
personal development programmes with a view to tacking early school
leaving;
* To work within the Schools and liaise with the staff of schools,
voluntary and statutory agencies as assigned by the Project Manager
and outlined in the programme of work;
* To undertake whatever training and attend whatever meetings which
might be considered appropriate by the Project Manager;
* To engage in planning, reporting and evaluation processes as
required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL: A degree level qualification in Psychology, Applied Social
Care/Social Studies, Education, Youth Work, or an equivalent
qualification.

EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL A minimum of three years post graduate experience in the
provision of services for children at risk;

DESIRABLE Additional post graduate qualifications in a relevant field.
Experience in developing and delivering innovative child centred
programmes;

CORE COMPETENCIES

* Ability to support the ongoing positive development of young people
presenting with personal, social and emotional needs;
* Ability to support young people?s positive engagement in
education;
* Ability to relate well with people, to have good communication
skills;
* Ability to work as part of a team and to develop effective working
relationships with other services within the community;
* Ability to provide for the administrative needs of the services,
i.e., record keeping and report writing.
