ROLE: COMMUNICATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT OFFICER

REPORTING TO:?Head of Advocacy and Communications

ROLE SUMMARY:

To maximise the impact of work, all our programmes and advocacy must
be promoted to relevant audiences. All our programmes and advocacy
must be shaped by those who are most affected by the issues we work
on. This role will play a central part in developing our approach to
working in partnership with older people to develop our work and
achieve change. The postholder will be responsible for working with
colleagues across the organisation to advise and support on, and
deliver, our activities relating to this agenda.

This role will support the promotion of Age Action?s programmes,
services and volunteer network to external audiences to encourage
participation and value placement.

This role will develop a range of mechanisms, including the
establishment of a network of older people, so that a diverse range of
older people can:

* Shape and critique our work internally
* Strengthen, and be an integral part of, our presentation,
messaging and campaigning externally
* Actively contribute to achieving change, locally and nationally.

1. DELIVER AGE ACTION?S OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT WORK WITH OLDER
PEOPLE, IN LINE WITH THE STRATEGIC PLAN, INCLUDING ESTABLISHING AND
MANAGING AGE ACTION?S VOICE FORUM

* Develop Age Action Voice Forum, building its membership through
outreach and engagement work
* Work with members and staff to define and develop the Forum?s
purpose and ways of working
* Engage a diverse range of older people in our work, specifically
under-represented and under-heard groups
* Work with colleagues and the community and development sector to
connect with local older people?s forums and groups and to build
relationships with equalities groups, faith organisations and
voluntary and community sector groups
* Be the main point of contact for Forum members, maintaining
relationships and keeping stakeholders updated by regularly generating
and disseminating communications assets
* Lead the development and delivery of training materials and events
(for members and staff where necessary), including commissioning
specialist training and working with external organisations
* Support the involvement of Forum members in a range of advocacy
activities including project development, external media work and
campaigning
* Be the main point of contact for the U3A Network, maintaining
relationships, co-ordinate information dissemination and promote
development of activities within the network
* Work with colleagues across the organisation and external partners
to enable working in partnership with older people on project
development, delivery, external communications and campaigning
* Be the first point of contact for staff and external partners
seeking to work with older people in their projects and advise on
approaches, best practice and resourcing.

2. PROMOTE AGE ACTION?S BRAND, PROGRAMMES AND SERVICES

* Working with colleagues in Programmes and Services generate and
respond to opportunities to promote Age Action?s work
* Support content generation and creation to raise awareness of the
impact of Age Action?s Programmes and Services
* Contribute to the development and implementation of an impact
reporting process in Age Action
* Actively contribute to Age Action?s values-led approach
* Take personal responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the
rights of older people
* Comply with our policies and procedures at all times, in
particular Data Protection
* Promote and support open and effective collaboration across Age
Action
* Carry out all duties in a professional manner and in line with our
values
* Undertake any other roles or responsibilities that may be
reasonably required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

SKILLS REQUIRED:

* At least 3 years? experience in communications practice with a
demonstrable successful track record relevant to the post
* Understanding of community development principles & approach
* Demonstrated understanding of influencing policy change
* A keen knowledge of the national media landscape including
demonstrable experience in dealing with the media and managing media
queries, both traditional and new, in an effective manner
* Excellent IT skills and experience of creating digital content
* Excellent writing and research skills

COMPETENCIES AND APTITUDES

* Proven ability to work and multi-task under pressure, respond
quickly to changing situations in complex project environments,
prepare responses/narrative quickly and clearly and use personal
initiative
* Good interpersonal and networking skills, highly articulate team
player
* Strong project management skills
* Familiarity with using various CRM systems essential
* Ability to work on own initiative and to work as part of a team
* Proven knowledge of marketing and communications principles,
guidelines and best working practices
* Demonstrable experience in drafting, editing and proof-reading
material to a publishable standard

SKILLS DESIRED:

* Demonstrated aptitude for applying a rights based framework to
social policy
* Experience of engaging with funding bodies, funding reports and
funding applications
* Knowledge of the Irish political landscape
* Experience of running effective campaigns
* Strong written, verbal, problem-solving and listening
* A full clean driving licence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Third Level qualification in communications, journalism, marketing
or public relations or community development.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The post of Communications and Engagement?Officer is a fixed term
post for 3 years from date of appointment. The salary for the post

**Apply on the website**-hour working work. Time off in lieu will be
provided for any requirement to work outside normal office hours in
the evenings or weekends.

Age Action practices a hybrid working model, combining office-based
work in our offices in Camden Street, Dublin 2 and working remotely.
Some travel may be necessary.
