JOB TITLE: INTERCULTURAL HEALTH WORKER

REPORTING TO: SICAP Manager

EMPLOYER: Sligo LEADER Development Company

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:? Intercultural Health Worker will work with the
Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme (SICAP) Team and the
HSE Social Inclusion Service in supporting our collective response to
the needs of displaced people in County Sligo.

CONDITIONS OF WORK: Intercultural Health Worker will be required to
work **Apply on the website** hours a week. A probationary period of
at least 3 months will apply. This is a Fixed Term contract for 6
months which may be extended and/or reduced subject to continual
funding. Main base will be Sligo LEADER Development Company.

MAIN DUTIES

* The Intercultural Health Worker will act as a support person for
BOTP arrivals in County Sligo both in relation to services provided by
the HSE and those provided by SICAP.

* To hold out-reach clinics in the accommodation settings at regular
intervals in order to:

* Assist Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection in completion of
medical cards, delivering and collecting forms across the catchment
area.
* Advise BOTP?s of their HSE entitlements and how to access health
services
* Offer support in getting health appointments and liaise with Acute
hospital departments/A&E where required
* Supporting BOTP?s in getting to health appointments with the
relevant services (including dental and opticians)
* Link with each of the allocated centres on a regular basis to
support management in relation to working with migrant displaced
communities
* Collating information
* Ensure all locations have adequate PPE

* To work with the SICAP team and partners:

* to promote Community health for all displaced people within our
community, including supporting programmes around healthy eating,
smoking cessation, active living, aging well, etc..
* to design and develop wellbeing programmes for all displaced
people within our community in areas of stress control, relaxation
techniques, sexual health, and support for dealing with trauma et..
* Working with our partners to promote ?Healthy Food made Easy
Programme?.
* To support the development of recreation and sports based
activities such as walking clubs, couch to 5k etc..
* to help design and organise healthy lifestyle festivals/events to
increase health awareness and promote local health-related services
and activities

* Attend team meetings and training where required.
* Any other duties as assigned by the line manager.

CORE COMPETENCIES/SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

1. LANGUAGE SKILLS
Fluency in English both written and oral.

2. LIAISON SKILLS & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Ability to advocate for refugees from different perspectives. Ability
to liaise with other workers on an interagency basis and build
effective working relationships. Emphatic attitude and ability to gain
understanding and insight of BOTP?s challenges.

3. COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to
draft reports and correspondence

4. ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS
Be self-motivated, pro-active and able to work independently as well
as in team. Great attention to detail and accuracy.

5. KNOWLEDGE
Understanding of the barriers and issues facing immigrants and
refugees and obstacles in accessing social, health and other services
in Ireland. Strong understanding of the health services in Ireland.

6. COMPUTER SKILLS
Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and
working knowledge of Social Media as a promotional tool.

Full Clean Driving Licence with access to a car
Consent to be garda vetted

CORE COMPETENCIES

_DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE _

* One year experience in community or health co-ordination role
* Experience in working with socially excluded and or minority
groups
* Experience of designing, facilitating and planning events

_DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS _

* 3rd level degree or post-graduate qualification in community work,
health, training and education or similar field. (note; candidates
with exceptional, relevant work experience may also be considered in
lieu of degree qualifications)
