COMMUNITY HELPERS PROJECT WORKER ? PART-TIME POST

POSITION AS A COMMUNITY HELPERS PROJECT WORKER in South Dublin County
Partnership. South Dublin County Partnership works with people who are
socially excluded or are at risk of becoming so and promotes social
cohesion and labour market participation with a focus on the most
disadvantaged neighbourhoods. This is achieved through a range of
integrated activities in Education, Training, Job Placement, Early
Childhood Services, Enterprise Support and Community and Environmental

WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY HELPERS PROJECT?

Objective: To support parents in their parenting capacity by assisting
with practical supports in the home in order to alleviate some
pressure and enable them to meet their children?s fundamental needs.

Community Helpers is a new and unique service. We plan to recruit and
train volunteers who are usually parents themselves to visit families
at home who are going through a difficult time in their lives.
Community Helpers will initially offer cleaning and organisational
support and following a review in 6 months, some additional practical
supports may be added to the service. Community Helpers will initially
cover the West Tallaght and Balgaddy areas and respond to the need of
families already participating in a Meitheal (national practice model
that offers supports and services to children and their families).
Community Helpers is an initiative conceived by members of the
Protected & Safe From Harm sub group of South Dublin CYPSC and is
managed by South Dublin County Partnership and?funded through SICAP.

SDCP?S?COMMUNITY HELPERS?PILOT PROJECT IS SEEKING TO RECRUIT A
PART-TIME PROJECT WORKER TO INITIATE A NEW
VOLUNTEER-LED?SERVICE?PROVIDING PRACTICAL SUPPORT TO PARENTS GOING
THROUGH A DIFFICULT TIME IN THEIR LIVES.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* To work with the Children & Families Manager to recruit, hire and
train Community Helpers volunteers.
* To plan and coordinate ongoing Community Helpers training.
* To supervise and support Community Helpers volunteers.
* To manage Community Helpers budget and liaise with the Children &
Families manager.
* To work with project referrers to recruit families for the service
and to complete individual service plans for each family accessing the
service.
* Visit families to introduce families and Community Helpers to each
other.
* Organise, delegate tasks and oversee events for the programme
families.
* Prepare and maintain records, fulfil all funders administrative
requirements, reports and/or test data on the programme.
* Lead evaluation activities and prepare mid-year and annual reports
for the Children & Families manager and management committee.
* Any other duties as assigned by the Children & Families manager.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

* Strong co-ordination skills and experience of new/pilot programmes
is desirable.
* Qualification in early years education/community and youth work,
social sciences or a related field.
* Two years? experience of working with young children and
families in a relevant community setting is required or experience of
working in a home visiting programme.
* Ability to train, supervise and support volunteers.
* Ability to work closely with marginalised families and have an
understanding of the issues of marginalisation.
* Ability to operate as a team player in a cross disciplinary,
integrated team, sharing roles and responsibilities.
* An energetic, confident and pro-active individual with strong
interpersonal and communication skills.
* Excellent leadership, administrative and organisational skills.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
* Full clean driver?s licence and use of own car.

CONTRACT: 1 Year Fixed Term Contract (with probation of 6 months)
SALARY: Salary will be based on SDCP?s project worker scale and will
