PROJECT WORKER

JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

The School Completion Programme (SCP) is a targeted programme of
support for children and young people who are at risk of educational
disadvantage, or young people who have left school early and have not
successfully transferred to alternative education, training or
employment.

SCP is one of three strands of Tusla Education Support Services
(TESS), along with Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) and the
statutory Educational Welfare Service. Nationally, TESS promotes three
outcomes:

* Improved Attendance
* Improved Participation, and
* Improved Retention.

Locally, SCP projects provide:

* Universal, evidence based/informed interventions in schools
* Brief intervention for children and young people who need
immediate, short-term support, and
* Targeted intervention for referrals who have significant,
longer-term needs.

South West Wexford School Completion Programme (SWWSCP) is a
school-based programme serving eight schools in the area: four primary
and four secondary schools. The SWWSCP team provides in-school, after
school, out of school and holiday-time supports.

The Project Worker?s main objective is to work with referrals, their
families and associated schools, to overcome barriers to school
attendance, participation and retention, in order that the child or
young person may derive the maximum benefit from education.

LOCATION: While initial appointment will be at Colaiste Abbain,
Adamstown and one primary school in New Ross, Co Wexford; the Project
Worker may be required to work at other participating schools/venues
within SWWSCP catchment area as the need arises.

HOURS OF WORK: In **Apply on the website**/**Apply on the website**,
the hours of work are **Apply on the website** hours, 5 days per week.
Hours of work are determined annually based on needs and funding
allocation. Flexibility around working hours is mandatory in order to
facilitate the required workload in-school, after-school,
out-of-school and holiday provision. A PROBATIONARY PERIOD WILL APPLY.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR THE POST OF PROJECT WORKER: _(E) = ESSENTIAL,
(D) = DESIRABLE_

* Education to level 7 or higher in education, youth/community,
social work or a related discipline. (D)
* Minimum of one year post graduate paid work experience, working
with children or young people in a similar role. (E)
* A thorough knowledge of the Irish education system and the factors
associated with educational disadvantage and social exclusion. (D)
* Practical experience of working with children and young people in
a one-to-one and group- work capacity delivering evidence
based/evidence informed interventions. (D)
* Practical experience of working collaboratively with other support
agencies. (D)
* Good planning, organisational and communication skills. (D)
* Fluency in English, both written and verbal. (E)
* Good ICT and report writing skills. (D)
* A full, clean driving license and own transport. (E)

and practice.

* Providing universal, targeted and brief interventions to support
improved attendance, participation and retention
* Providing supports in-school, after-school, out of school and
through holiday provision
* Deliver a range of evidence based and evidence informed programmes
and supports
* Engaging in reflective practice and supporting the development of
a learning organisation.

COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION AND TEAMWORK

* Work as a valued member of the School Completion Team to achieve

children, young people and their families
* Participate in school student support teams and develop positive
professional links with key school staff
* Collaborate and work effectively with education support service
colleagues: Home School Community Liasion Co-ordinators and Education
Welfare Officers
* Engage with local statutory, community and voluntary support
service and agencies
* Work with Meitheal, the national practice model
* Ensure good quality record keeping, furnishing information,
reports and contributing to the preparation of the Retention Plan, as
requested.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE AND DEVELOPMENT

* Undertaking needs and assets assessment linking underpinning
theories
* Develop an annual logic model including personalised programmes
for individual referrals, establishing clear goals and outcomes
* Intervention selection and/or curriculum development
* Programme, key work and case management
* Establishing safe, welcoming and inclusive practice
* Adherence to all policies, regulations and legislation.

PROMOTING VALUES AND ETHOS

* Promoting SCP values of trust, respect, empathy, team work and
integrity
* Child-centred, encouraging youth participation and supporting the
