ABOUT SOPHIA:

Sophia is national provider of housing and homeless services. Founded
in **Apply on the website** by Sr. Jean Quinn D.W the organisation has
always been acutely aware of the impact that homelessness has on
individuals, couples and families.

**Apply on the website** was an important milestone for Sophia as we
marked **Apply on the website** years of providing homes and
supporting people across Ireland. Over the past two and a half decades
Sophia has been supporting people as they emerge from homelessness.
Since **Apply on the website** Sophia has increased the number of
people it supports by **Apply on the website**% in response to an ever
growing need in Ireland. In **Apply on the website**, Sophia supported
**Apply on the website** people, **Apply on the website** adults and

**Apply on the website** Sophia had a housing stability rate of
**Apply on the website**% meaning only 1% of those supported by Sophia
relapsed into homelessness.
Sophia provides trauma informed services that recognises the impact
that homelessness, poverty and social exclusion has on those it
supports. Sophia is unique among providers of homeless services in
that it focuses exclusively of helping people to leave homelessness by
having a home of their own as quickly as possible.

Collaboration with Midlands Simon Community
In **Apply on the website** Sophia entered an innovative collaboration
agreement with Midlands Simon Community. Both organisations have a
strong shared value and commitment to a Housing First /Housing Led
approach. The C.E.O of Sophia, Tony O?Riordan also carries out the
function of C.E.O of Midlands Simon Community.

Both organisations collaborate in the areas of creating new homes for
people to progress out of homelessness. In **Apply on the website**
they opened **Apply on the website** homes in the Midlands in Moate
and Portlaoise. In Tullamore, Sophia is developing a Midlands
Emergency Accommodation project that will be run by Midlands Simon
Community in Clonamore House, to be opened in **Apply on the

PURPOSE

The Head of Finance and Governance role supports all aspects of
Sophia?s services and is essential to the operation and management
of the overall finance function with key focus on the following:
Finance Management, Governance, Compliance Procurement, Internal Audit
and Risk Management.
This role will further enhance and progress the collaboration
agreement with Midlands Simon Community potentially leading to a
combined finance function.

REPORTING TO: Chief Executive Officer

CONTRACT: Permanent, **Apply on the website** hours per week. Hybrid
working arrangements.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ENSURE FINANCES ARE MANAGED ACCORDING TO LEGISLATION, POLICIES,
PROCEDURES, AND ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES

* Manage the accounting and financial systems and maintain full and
accurate accounting records
* Ensuring integrity of information in accounts, budgets, estimates
and reports including reviewing and refining accounting policies and
procedures
* Management of projects and initiatives to improve the day to day
administration of the finance function
* Comprehensive review of processes, practices and procedures within
the finance function, with a view to recommending more efficient ways
of completing essential tasks.
* Research, prepare and submit annual and other budgets and prepare
reports on budget and expenditure as required
* Conduct financial and risk analysis and prepare detailed reports
and statements for the CEO, audit committee, Board, accountants and
external auditors.
* Attend meetings with these and other bodies as required.
* Create and support a culture in which non-financial managers take
responsibility for effective management of budgetary resources.
* Oversee and maintain all policies, procedures and statements
related to financial management, risk management, compliance and
governance.

DEVELOP AND MANAGE CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT?

* Ensure compliance with required Codes of Practice and other
relevant policies and regulations
* Maintain an overarching corporate governance and risk management
strategy for the organisation to ensure the highest level of
accountability in decision making and other processes
* Work with the providers of Sophia?s professional services (e.g.
legal, accountancy, audit). Ensure excellence and compliance in all
governance functions.
* Co-ordinate all aspects of governance, including risk management,
liaison with departments and monitoring of compliance with the
Governance Code.
* Manage, maintain and improve all financial, data processing and
other information systems
* Ensure that staff are aware of all relevant policies and
procedures and are supported to implement them effectively in their
daily tasks by preparing and keeping up to date standard practice
policies and procedures
* Prepare all statutory reports and returns in liaison with
professional advisors as appropriate.

SUPPORT AND MANAGE THE PERFORMANCE OF DIRECT REPORTS

* Provide support and direction to the finance team to enable them to
perform their duties optimally and develop their skills
* Play an active role as part of the senior management team and
participate in all strategic, financial and human resource planning
and reviews
* Undertake any other duties, in keeping with this role, that may be
assigned from time to time by the Chief Executive Officer

PERSON SPECIFICATION

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must possess a professional accountancy qualification and
be a member of a recognised body of accountants. They must also have
satisfactory experience of management accounting and financial
accounting and have satisfactory and relevant experience in a
managerial capacity. They must possess, and be capable of
demonstrating, a good understanding and knowledge of charity or public
sector finance.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

* Experience in leading, developing and implementing financial and
resource allocation strategies that support organisational planning
objectives
* A high degree of analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills
in finance management
* Knowledge of accounting, methods, procedures, processes and
contemporary management accounting techniques and principles.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE:

* The necessary level of management skills to manage, develop and
motivate a professional finance function
* Strong relationship management, interpersonal and communication
skills with the capacity to work in close consultation with the Sophia
management team
* An ability to work effectively under pressure, manage a number of
projects at any one time
* An understanding of procurement, information technology, financial
management, governance and accountability.
