MIGRAINE IRELAND

MAI is a charity based in Dublin. Our aims include:

* To help and support people living with Migraine.
* To make information available to people living with Migraine and
their families through seminars, newsletters and meetings on both a
national and local level.
* To facilitate easy access to all appropriate services for people
with Migraine and to lobby to improve those services.
* To promote and encourage research into Migraine

We do this through educating the public and raising awareness in
workplaces. We fundraise to help provide essential services,
ultimately throughout the country. Currently our primary push is to
finance the provision of Migraine Nurse Specialists, ideally working
in association with neurologists or GPS, based in the community.

within the Association. To advocate for improved services and
represent our members as one unified voice.

Executive, to advocate and deliver services based on the needs of our

QUALIFICATIONS

* Registered in the General Division by An Bord Altranais
* Previous experience in developing programmes in a community
setting
* Experience working in the community and with not-for-profit
sector.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Nurse Specialist is an administrator, leader, manager,
collaborator practitioner, educator and researcher. The Nurse will
provide social, psychological, and educational support on how to
manage Migraine for patients and their families.

The post holder will work as an integral member of the MAI team with
responsibility for developing the Infoline service.?The primary focus
of the post will be to provide education training and advice on
Migraine?s management to persons living with the disease, their
relatives and carers, and the wider community to ensure their ability
to manage all aspects of their Migraine with the aim of facilitating
self-care where possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Nurse Specialist is required to provide expertise in the
management of Migraine to those in the hospital setting and the
community.?The role is educational and advisory with the aim of
providing specialist advice to the person with Migraine their carers
and also training for health professionals.?The role involves working
with other disciplines to promote healthier lifestyles and to prevent
complications associated with Migraine.

DIRECT CARE

* Provision of support for the MAI.
* Prioritise the needs of the newly diagnosed person with Migraine.
* Design and implement teaching sessions based on individual
patient?s assessments of needs.
* Assess understanding of diagnosis and its implications.
* Teach the person and their families about the specific therapies
relevant to Migraine.
* To provide a service that is evidence based and which aims to
improve quality of life for patients with Migraine.

INDIRECT CARE

* To act as expert in the MAI organization and disseminate knowledge.
* To act as an expert resource and to provide highly specialised
advice about diagnosis and management of Migraine to other health
professionals.
* To work closely with other members of the MAI team, attend team
meeting and ensure effective communication between professionals to
benefit the service.
* Provision of telephone service during working hours. Infoline.
* Ensure patients have follow up calls if required.
* In conjunction with other members of the service develop
protocols, standards, guidelines and documentation systems to promote
best practice.
* To keep statistics on patients care and to submit reports as
requested.
* Maintain high professional standards and acceptable protocols and
national legislation.
* Regular review of service.
