COMMUNITY YOUTH WORKER

GENERAL:

The Community Youth Worker will work as part of the Bluebell Youth
Project team. The worker will further the development of a community
youth project where young people, volunteers, youth workers and the
local community together aim to enhance the social, personal and
political development of young people.

JOB PURPOSE:

The successful candidate will work in partnership with young people,
volunteers and local youth groups. The Community Youth Worker is
responsible for identifying young people in the community,
particularly those at risk through contact with local schools, youth
groups, local community and other relevant services. S/he is also
responsible for assessing the needs and potential of the identified
young people and then developing and delivering specific youth work
programmes to meet their needs/potential as agreed with the Board of
Directors and Manager.

REPORTING TO:

Canal Communities Regional Youth Service Board of Directors through
the Manager

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In conjunction with the Manager, the Community Youth Worker will be
involved in the following:

Work with young people:

* Building positive relationships with young people
* Identifying young people who would benefit from involvement in
programmes and activities and encouraging their involvement through
outreach, school visits, and referral from other service providers
* Planning, developing, delivering and evaluating programmes to
respond to issues such as drug misuse, early school leaving, health
education, early parenting, mental health and racism etc.
* Planning, developing, delivering and evaluating interest based
projects/activities such as dance, music, sport, photography,
environmental studies etc
* Developing appropriate responses to meet the personal, social and
developmental needs of young people which may involve local schools,
parents/guardians and other service providers

* Creating opportunities for young people

* to increase their participation in the development of programmes
and services
* to play leadership and advocacy roles in their community

* Delivering Junior Leadership training and to support young leaders
in Bluebell Youth Project
* Ensuring youth work approaches and methodologies are employed such
as centre based programmes, group work, outreach work, drop in spaces
and individual support
* Encouraging young people to actively participate in the design and
development of programmes and offering opportunities for them to
feedback on the programmes delivered
* Advocating on behalf of young people to other service providers
and third parties where appropriate
* Liaising with other agencies/services working with young people
and attending at meetings of these agencies where appropriate and
agreed

Organisational Structures and Systems

* Attending and participating in the team meetings of the youth
project/service
* Recording all youth work practice through the Logbook recording
system or other as required
* Adhering to the National Quality Standards Framework for Youth
Work
* Compiling reports deemed necessary by the Manager and completing
them within the given timeframe
* Participating in the support and supervision system operating in
the project/service
* Participating in the relevant service training as agreed with the
Project Manager
* Carrying out the work in a professional manner guided by the
principles of and policies of the Board of Directors

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF THE POST

* The nature of this post requires that the holder is flexible in
working hours to cover the operational times of the service/project
and/or centre on a rota basis. This will involve scheduled evening,
weekend work and residentials

HOURS OF WORK: Your normal working week will be **Apply on the

centre on a Rota basis. This will involve scheduled evening and
weekend work.

SALARY: CDYSB Youth Worker Pay Scale
