CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST (MENTAL HEALTH)

Nurse Specialist (Mental Health). The post holder will be located in
Brandon House, HSE Addiction Service CHO area 4 Tralee.
The successful candidate will report to ADON Social Inclusion.

DETAILS OF SERVICE/BACKGROUND TO THE POST

The Adolescent Addiction Service is striving to provide treatment to
adolescents under the age of **Apply on the website** who have drug
and alcohol problems. The service will deal with the full spectrum of
adolescent substance use disorders, and will offer a comprehensive
outpatient treatment to clients. In terms of the Department of Health
report on services for under **Apply on the website**s, it is a Tier 3
multidisciplinary outpatient service (Department of Health and
Children, **Apply on the website**).

The broad aims of the service are:-

* To ensure that appropriate services / treatment are provided to
young people with substance use disorders.
* To demonstrably reduce the harm caused by substance misuse to
young people.
* To develop the capacity of service users to solve their own
difficulties.
* To provide education to young people in relation to substance
misuse issues.
* To establish through rigorous scientific research appropriate
interventions for the target client group.
* To provide a specialist consultancy service to relevant
professionals that will support them in developing their skills in
treating the target population.

The service views family participation in treatment as very important.
Team members require the skills to build and maintain relationships
with family members and other carers. As young people are also
involved with a range of other services such as TUSLA,. Probation,
Education Welfare and Youth services, team members require skills in
interagency working.

PURPOSE OF THE POST:

The purpose of this Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health) post is
to:

Deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out
in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse Specialist
Posts, 4th edition, National Council for the Professional Development
of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) **Apply on the website**.

The CNS will have a role in delivering treatment to adolescents with
substance use disorders as a case manager. Within the team, they will
have a key role in assessing and managing mental health and medical
comorbidities.

Caseload

The Adolescent Addiction Service manages the full spectrum of
substance use disorders.
