This is an excellent opportunity to join an organisation which works
intensively with children, young people and their families through the
Social Pedagogy model of care in a residential setting. We provide
intensive therapeutic support to children with emotional, behavioural
and attachment difficulties

The Centre Manager will work in close conjunction with and report to
the Service Manager

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Have clear knowledge and understanding of the National Standards
for Children?s Residential Centres (**Apply on the website**),
Childcare Regulations **Apply on the website**, HIQA Standards **Apply
on the website**, the organisational policies and procedures, as well
as all relevant legislation and national policies, having an awareness
of how these translate into practice
* Ensure that the staff team have clear knowledge and understanding
of such standards, policies, procedures and legislation and an ability
to implement and uphold these in order to promote best practice
* Provide formal individual supervision to the staff team and group
supervision when required
* Develop a clear understanding of the organisation?s ethos and
expectations concerning best practice and communicate this effectively
to the staff team
* Place quality service and the needs of the young people at the
heart of all thinking and decision making, within the framework of
Social Pedagogy and Attachment Theory
* Establish positive relationships with the young people and provide
staff with guidance and encouragement on how to further their
relationships with young people
* Provide a safe, caring and encouraging environment for young
people and ensure the staff team reflects this
* Contribute to a comprehensive and realistic placement plan based
on the assessed needs in conjunction with the Service Manager, young
person, the staff team, Social Worker and other relevant parties, and
ensure the staff team are aware of how to practically implement the
plan which is regularly reviewed
* Advocate for the young person when necessary, liaising closely
with the social workers and other relevant professionals
* Ensure that complaints, child protections concerns, significant
incidents and all other significant information is recorded
effectively and managed promptly and professionally.
* Ensure that all staff engage in professional and appropriate
recording practices as outlined in the Galtee Clinic policies and
procedures
* Liaise daily with the social pedagogues and activity therapists
and work with them in a collaborative manner regarding problem solving
and decision making
* Participate in regular supervision with the service manager
* Attend and participate in team meetings, community meetings, house
meetings (and chair when necessary) and attend Statutory Reviews
* Develop a positive close working relationship with social workers,
GALs and other external bodies
* Be accountable for the staff team rota and ensure that adequate
cover is provided daily
* Regularly inspect the house in line with fire safety policy and
health and safety policies
* Demonstrate efficient budgeting skills and be accountable for
expenditure

HOURS OF WORK

The average working hours will be **Apply on the website** hours per
week from 9am to 5pm approximately. The post requires flexibility in
these hours.
The post also requires on-call be provided at weekends and this is
evenly distributed throughout the management team

TRAINING

Training will be provided by the Galtee Clinic in mandatory areas
including attachment, social pedagogy, MAPA, First Aid, Children?s
First and Fire Safety. Other additional relevant training may also be
provided

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

* A level 8 Degree in Social Care and 5 years? experience of
working with children
Or
* A level 7 Degree in Social Care and a relevant management
qualification suitable for a social care setting and 5 years?
experience of working with children
Or
* Hold a qualification in a related or relevant field and a relevant
management qualification suitable for a social care setting and have
previously been the manager of a registered centre within the past 3
years
* A full clean driving licence and access to a car, with willingness
to have business insurance
* Knowledge of all relevant child care legislation and policy
specific to Ireland
* Knowledge of effective theoretical approaches for working with
young people/children

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

* A management qualification
* Training/qualification in leadership and team building
* Training in Professional Supervision, First Aid, MAPA and
Children?s First/Child Protection
* Experience in managing a staff team and supervising staff
* Knowledge of Social Pedagogy, Attachment Theory and Activity
Therapy
* Working as part of a therapeutic community
