EMPLOYMENT GUIDANCE OFFICER

ROLE PURPOSE

The Employment Guidance Officer is required to work as part of a staff
team implementing objectives and actions set out in the organisations
programme of work.

This is a front-line role delivering essential services to Local
employment service clients.

DUTIES OF THE ROLE

The role of the Employment Guidance officer is to provide clients with
a confidential, individual career path planning, guidance and
counselling service on a caseload basis.

* To develop and plan individual career path progression routes for
unemployed clients which having assessed the client?s current
employability status indicates concrete actions that need to be taken
to secure employment
* To effectively manage a DSP?s computerised client caseload
system to ensure that the appropriate tracking mechanisms are in place
with the LES and other systems as directed
* Maintain caseload records and build a case-study portfolio and
general statistical information
* Make appropriate referrals to agreed suitable programmes and
projects.
* Individually and as part of the LES Team, build well-grounded
networks into local agencies, to manage the realisation of the
progression route ensuring that the relevant agencies provide the
necessary progression steps
* As part of the LES Team and in conjunction with other staff
propose and on occasion provide inputs on innovative training to meet
client?s needs
* To provide an aftercare service to both clients and employers
* Generate progression reports on an agreed basis

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS: The Employment Guidance Officer will be able to
demonstrate practical experience of employment and education issues
affecting individuals and communities. A relevant third level
qualification or at least 1 years? experience in a similar type role
is a minimum requirement.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE

* Must have experience of working directly with adults in an adult
guidance setting or related area
* Knowledge of labour market trends and opportunities
* Knowledge of education and training pathways to employment
* Experience in making effective referrals
* Experience in working with clients in a one-to-one setting
* A record of planning, achievement, and implementation
* Must demonstrate an understanding and commitment to social
inclusion and adult guidance practices
* Must have experience of establishing contact and developing
relationships with key stake holders including statutory bodies,
employers and other sector stakeholders
* In possession of excellent written and oral communication,
facilitation and presentation skills
* Computer literate in dealing with standard MS word and data
processing, spreadsheet and communication packages
