PROJECT OFFICER POSITION

The steering committee coordinating the United Nations International
Decade for people of African Descent in Ireland (UNIDPADI) **Apply on

Reflecting on the history of mistreatment of people of African and
African Descent globally from Slavery and Colonialism through to
contemporary times as result, the United Nations member states

United Nations World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination,
Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, the **Apply on the website**
United Nations International Year of People of African Descent and in
the declaration of United Nations International Decade for People

the need for United Nations member states to address specific needs of
the people of African Descent living in each of the states along three
key themes Justice, Recognition and Development.

Established in March **Apply on the website** the purpose of the
Steering Committee on the implementation of the United Nations
International Decade for People of African Descent in Ireland is to
work with members of the African community, identifying and
establishing key issues, activities and projects to be implemented
during the Decade in Ireland. The Committee also liaises with
government departments and mobilizes and represents the views,
opinions and suggestions of the African community and give input on
projects to be undertaken in the implementation of the Decade. The
Steering Committee ensures an effective voice for People of African
Descent that is acknowledged by the state, the political system and
other sectors, public and private at local, regional, and national
levels. Additionally, the Committee informs and influence policies on
three key major areas and themes of Decade- Justice, Recognition, and
Development for People of African Descent in Ireland and monitors and
evaluates achievements, success, outcomes and challenges in
implementing the themes.

JOB TITLE:?Project Officer

DURATION: 6 months

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Officer major responsibility is to support, deliver
actions and coordinate activities as outlined by the steering
Committee.

The project officer will:

* Conduct mapping of People of African Descent in Ireland and
creating a comprehensive database according to categories decided by
steering committee.
* Ensure proper administration and effective and efficient
communication with PADI
* sending and responding to emails.
* Profile the work of UNIDPADI through social media works toward the
development of website, twitter account and regularly update the
Facebook page
* Plan for outreach meeting at local, regional and national level
and identify and work with People of African Descent (PAD) and
together plan, organise and hold meeting for all PAD.
* Organise, plan and coordinate regional, national and public
meeting meetings
* Support the steering committee meetings by preparing documents and
materials in advance of the monthly meetings and take notes during
steering meetings and distribute them on time
* Undertake research on various areas identified together with the
steering committee
* Support the work of UNIDPADI sub-committee and perform any other
duties and tasks as directed by the steering committee

KEY COMPETENCIES

_ESSENTIAL_

* Ability to plan, and deliver activities?at national, regional and
local levels
* Understanding of the issues and challenges facing people of
African Descent
* Experience in group facilitation, training, meeting and
coordination.
* Experience of working with the African community and voluntary
groups.
* Understanding of community development practices.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* An organised approach and the capability to deliver to agreed
deadlines.

LOCATION

The position will be based in Dublin, but the person will be required
to travel on a regular basis to other locations around the country in
the delivery of their duties
