YOUTH COUNSELLORS WITH A QUALIFICATION IN ADOLESCENT THERAPY
Our Youth Counselling Service has been in existence since **Apply on
the website** and provides free counselling to young people **Apply on
the website** years. The Counsellors are expected to maintain and
produce required service documentation and comply with the policies
and procedures of Youth Work Ireland Galway.
The ideal candidate should be motivated, flexible, be able to relate
to young people from diverse cultural backgrounds and have good
communication skills. Previous study and recent experience of
counselling in the follow areas would be desirable: youth studies,
family systems, addiction or suicide. The service is provided in
Connemara and we are also seeking counsellors to provide the service
through Irish.
Counsellors will be required to hold full accreditation with a
recognised professional body e.g., IAAAC, IACP, IAHIP or PSI
(Counselling/Clinical Psychologists) or with an equivalent recognised
body.
Garda vetting and reference checks will apply.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Youth Counsellor, Youth Work Ireland Galway.
BACKGROUND/CONTEXT:
Youth Work Ireland Galway is a voluntary youth work organisation that
has been actively engaged with young people, their families and
communities in Galway City and County for over **Apply on the
website** years. The Counselling Service is one of the many support
services which we offer to young people in our geographic remit and
the main referrers are youth work projects, other organisations and
families located in the geographic areas of Tuam, Ballinasloe,
Loughrea and Galway City.
Since February **Apply on the website**, the service has been extended
to include: Gort, Athenry and Connemara.
ROLE:
To provide a professional and accessible counselling service to young
people aged between **Apply on the website** years of a therapeutic,
preventative nature.
REPORTING TO:
The Managing Director of Youth Work Ireland Galway.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assessment of the young person
* One to one therapeutic sessions with occasional/where appropriate
family sessions
* Onward referrals as appropriate
* Child Safeguarding notifications in line with Children First and
the Child Safeguarding Policies of Youth Work Ireland Galway.
ADMINISTRATION & ACCOUNTABILITY:
* Keep records and observe professional standards in respect of
confidentiality and security of same (re Data Protection and Freedom
of Information)
* Attend clinical supervision with own clinical supervisor.
* Participate in group sessions with Youth Work Ireland Galway?s
contracted clinical supervisor.
* Counsellors will have their own professional indemnification.
* Counsellors will hold a full clean driver license and have access
to a car.
