JOB TITLE: ADVOCACY AND ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

REPORTING TO: Head of Advocacy and Communications

LOCATION: Head Office, Whitworth Road, Drumcondra, Dublin with some
travel within Ireland.

The Advocacy and Engagement Manager will oversee and implement
effective advocacy, marketing and public awareness campaigns all
designed to improve the lives of people who are blind or vision
impaired. Central to this will be to enhance participation and
engagement of NCBI service users and wider sight loss community. All
duties within this role will be carried out in compliance with NCBI
Vision, Mission and Values.

_DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES_

ADVOCACY STRATEGY & POLICY DEVELOPMENT

* Implement and monitor NCBI Advocacy and Engagement strategy against
agreed metrics and in line with NCBI strategic goals.
* Drive and manage national and local advocacy activities which aim
to increase overall awareness and influence appropriate stakeholders
on issues affecting people who are blind or vision impaired.
* Develop and implement a campaign, at least on an annual basis, in
consultation with the sight loss community in line with the overall
NCBI strategy.
* Build relationships with political, public sector and sectoral
stakeholders and lobby accordingly.
* Monitor external political and media environment and proactively
identify opportunities to highlight their potential impact on people
who are blind or vision impaired.
* Oversee and commission research as required to initiate or support
service development and / or NCBI awareness campaigns.
* Ensure compliance and adherence with Lobbying Act, Freedom of
Information Act and Data Protection Acts.

CAPACITY BUILDING AND ENGAGEMENT

* Proactively seek and support engagement of people who are blind or
vision impaired through a variety of marketing, digital and offline
methods.
* Oversee the roll out of advocacy training for advocates to
maximise their effectiveness.
* Act as the ambassador and spokesperson for NCBI as required.
* Work closely with other NCBI departments to enhance their
abilities to maximise engagement with the sight loss community.
* Secure greater public brand awareness of NCBI and its work to
diverse audiences.
* Instigate a range of marketing tactics using CRM, website, email
and social media platforms to mobalise engagement and analyse results
to build successful strategies.
* Collaborate with NCBI services staff on specific projects and the
roll out of advocacy campaigns.
* Recruit, supervise, delegate and support staff within the Policy
and Advocacy Team.

This is not an exhaustive list as additional duties and functions may
need to be carried out in line with the role.

Travel within Ireland will be an expected feature of this role.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

* A seasoned track record (minimum 5 years) in achieving change
through advocacy, policy, marketing and building partnerships.
* Knowledge of political environment in Ireland.
* Strong strategic understanding of digital communications, social
media strategies and email marketing as tools for promotion and
engagement.
* Excellent people skills to engage and unify staff, service users
and wider sight loss community on campaigns and projects.
* Naturally creative, enjoy idea generation and demonstrate
innovative and strategic thinking in the engagement and outreach
campaigns being run.
* Demonstrable KPI driven experience in Digital Marketing, Google
AdWords and SEO.
* Demonstrable project management skills - showing the ability to
drive ideas and oversee projects from creation with ongoing monitoring
and evaluation built in.
* Experience of managing a small and effective team.
* Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage a
diverse workload.

Previous experience of working in an area of disability/ illness, and
a general understanding of the not-for-profit sector in Ireland is
desirable but not essential.
